Post-op Visit #7

Hi ya'll,

I had my 7 week post-op visit last Thursday. Tomorrow, it will be 8 weeks since surgery! I walk normally now, but I'm not normal yet :) (not sure I ever was or will be, though) :)

Anyway, my last two post-ops were no where near as painful as my 3rd and 5th. My doc has decided not to torture me anymore. I actually wish he would because I think the pain is still feel is from serious scar tissue build-up and after he tortures me, I have a lot more flexibility and it doesn't bother me as much walking....

I wear Crocs as of last week. They're pretty soft and comfy. They have a warm liner in the for the winter and they were buy one, get one free at Dick's Sporting Goods! The podiatrist told me to wear sneakers though because they have more arch support and will force me to walk normally. I no longer wear my surgery shoe or splint aligner thingy.

I'm not going to a follow-up this week because my spring semester starts tomorrow and the only days I can go up to my podiatrist are Mondays. (Tight schedule, I know) :( But, he does want to see me every week still. Oh, and my pinkie bone did heal! Yay! I didn't bring my phone with me, so I didn't have a camera. I'll ask next week if I can take photos of all of the x-rays.

Last thing: The scars are red and raised now - the worst they will be (says the doc). He said they're usually worst 2-3 months post surgery, and fade from there.

I hope I can see a physical therapist for some additional exercises because I know I need them!

Post-op Visit # 6

Hi,

It's been a little over six weeks since surgery now, and I had my weekly visit yesterday. My podiatrist didn't torture me! (I'd actually taken a Vicodin beforehand because I was worried). He didn't use the ultrasound, and he didn't take x-rays. He wants to wait another week to be sure that my pinkie toe bone has healed. :(

Good news: I can bring a "soft shoe" with me to my seven week visit! I did warn him that I tried to fit in a flip-flop two nights ago, and it worked, but it didn't go well.... He says he wants me to bring sneakers. I hate sneakers. And, my sneakers are pretty snug, so I'm thinking about going to get a pair of wide sneakers. He also told me that the swelling can take many months to completely dissipate. How disappointing....

Two days, I walked normally! Even going down the stairs, I made myself push off the ball of my foot/big toe. It's still uncomfortable, but it's getting there.

I don't have new pix yet... not much has changed, except my incisions are becoming a little raised. I soaked my foot last Friday (my birthday) and really pushed myself with my exercises then too.

I spent 28 minutes on hold with the DMV to try to find out what's going on with my handicap pass I sent out for two weeks ago, only to hear "It hasn't been processed yet." More good news: They cashed the check so at least I know they got the form!

Spring semester starts in 11 days. I really hope I have that pass by then because I am going to be walking MILES if I don't!

Even more good news: I can walk Caesar much more! We don't just go to the poopy station and back now, we go around the buildings, and to other poopy stations again now too! He seems happier. My boyfriend had so much vacation time at the end of 2011 that he's actually been off work for two weeks now, which has been extremely helpful. Last night we walked around TJMaxx and Homegoods - no more power scooter for me! (I'd been using them when I went to the supermarket, etc.).

So, all in all, I'm getting there. I just wish this didn't take so long, and I'm praying it's worth it by this summer!
